changes lost after cmp update? was created by Mix
Hello,

I am currently using CMP package 1.6 and want to update to the newest one.
But, do I keep my settings?
I have altered a file in the past, so that I always start with a sniper rifle.
I can also use the sniper rifle in any map. That's the way we like to play the game.
But I don't know anymore how I did it. If update to 1.9.7, do I loose those config?

I also like to know if I can just overwrite the excisting folders or do I have to reinstall the game?
I saw that some missions don't excist anymore. Maybe it wil mess up my install.
That's why I ask.

TIA

Mix

Hi Mix

You can extract the CMP archive in a folder on your Desktop. Take a look
at what folders get created there and make a backup of the similar folders
you have in your game installation folder. This way you can easily revert
back.

Now, you are talking about your character setup. That one will not be
replaced.

What maps are missing. Usually the CMP keeps growing :)

Hey Mix,

Updating to the newest CMP is usually just as easy as copying the new files into the HD2 directory, replacing anything if prompted.

There should be no need to reinstall the game, modding HD2 is usually pretty safe. If you are concerned about bugs, a safe option would be to remove mod folders (maps, missions, scripts, etc.) from the game directory. This will revert the game back to its vanilla state, you can keep a backup of these folders if you are worried as well, then reinstall the new CMP and any other mods you want to update.

Equipment presets and such should, as far as I recall, be kept in the PlayersProfiles and not be touched by a CMP update.

I hope this helps, feel free to report back if you have more questions.

Edit: I see Snow beat me to it :)

Thanks!

I always have a backup install nearby. I install the game and I copy the whole bunch over the install directory. Easy job with this game.
I didn't alter anything in my playerprofile, that's for sure.
I changed lines in scripts or mapfiles or missionfiles.
That's why I can choose the sniper rifle in missions where you can normally
not choose them.
I just hoped that you knew where is was talking about.

I'll take a look at the missions that disappeared.
I'll let you know.
