In Munich, Germany, during the Olympic Games , a commando of the Palestinian terrorist group Black September took hostage the athletes of the Israeli delegation. After unsuccessful negotiations and an operation badly conducted by German police forces unprepared for this kind of threat, the drama ended with the massacre of eleven Israeli athletes. Five Palestinian terrorists and a German policeman are also killed.
In response to this act of terrorism, the head of the Israeli government Golda Meir launches Operation Wrath of God . The Kidon of Israeli secret service Mossad track down participants and responsibles and will conduct their "targeted killings" until 1991. These operations will also not be free of errors and innocent people will lost their lives there.
The feedback from this tragedy and the awareness of the need to have forces specially prepared to face this type of terrorist attacks will lead to the creation in Europe of specialized anti terrorist units : The German GSG 9 and the French GIGN are created in 1973.

L'HERMIONE
Charente Maritime in Rochefort sur Mer (FRANCE)
Since July 1997, the Association Hermione-La Fayette embarked on a great adventure, the reconstruction of the frigate Hermione, the ship, which in 1780 allowed Lafayette to join the American rebels in their struggle for independence.
A technical challenge in respect of authenticity: the ambition of the Hermione-La Fayette Association is to reconstruct as closely as possible to the original frigate, taking into account current regulatory constraints, including airworthiness a vessel over 65 meters long with three masts and 2,200 m2 of sail. A ship whose hull is made entirely of oak.
Some other figures illustrate the extraordinary challenge faced in Rochefort:
a mast 54 feet above the keel
2000 selected oak forests in French
a puzzle of more than 400 000 pieces of wood and metal
1000 pulleys
1 ton tow for caulking
26 guns fired cannonballs of 12 pounds on the deck of battery and 8 guns firing bullets of 6 books on the forecastle deck
Good wind the HERMIONE
