France at war, again...

Full translation by myself (and Google also), of the speach of French President François Hollande, today, about the planned intervention of French forces in Mali.

Official presidential link here

Mesdames, Messieurs,

Merci.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Mali is facing an assault of terrorist elements from the north, which the whole world now knows the brutality and fanaticism.

This is so, today, the very existence of the friend State, Mali, security of the population, and also that of our citizens. They are 6000 over there.

I, therefore, in the name of France, responded to the request for assistance of the President of Mali supported by the West African countries. As a result, the French armed forces have made this afternoon Malian support units to fight against these terrorists.

This operation will take the necessary time. I will regularly inform the French people about its progress. The ministers, the Foreign Ministry in conjunction with the United Nations, as we operate within the framework of international law, as the Minister of Defence also give all relevant information to the public.

Finally, the parliament will be seized on Monday.

Terrorists must know that France will always be there when it is not its fundamental interests but rights of a population, that of Mali, who wants to live in freedom and democracy.

Thank you.

EDIT 2 :

Nice song, Mister President, but please, learn at least this lesson from Afghanistan: In anticipation of future deaths in the ranks of French soldiers, make sure there will be at least one sound system that works properly during ceremonies tribute, and also the correct device that allows to load the coffins on planes without shaking them like wheelbarrows. Thank you.

The first one of this conflict :

Lieutenant Damien Boiteux, pilot, 4th Special Forces Helicopter Regiment , killed in action on January 11, 2013.

Hit by a light weapon fire while his unit attacked a column of islamists who threatened Mopti, he managed to disengage his helicopter and land outside the combat zone. He died shortly after at the medical center. RIP

You soldiers of the ALAT, you will always be my brothers in arms.

EDIT : The biography of Lieutenant Damien Boiteux is available here (French)
