You can make modifications to file items.dat to give more ammo for tanks.
In missions tanks are pretty useless for that low ammo reason...

From Wiki Sherman has 55 or 90 rounds for main weapon:

CMP is not done by me.. but if i make another mission, there will be plenty of ammo for everything :)
