The defeat of Napoléon Bonaparte in Waterloo is a major turning point in the history of Europe. It is the end of the reign of the emperor who will abdicate four days later and will surrender to the British on July 15th.

        July 1st, 1867:
    Confederation of Canada
Celebrated today as "Canada Day", on July 1st 1867 the Dominion of Canada was formed out of the four provinces; Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Colombia, as well as the northern territories, would be added later as the country continued to expand west.
British Influence in Canadian politics would continue long after confederation, and it also took time and a lot of political effort for the country to work together. (We still don't, really. Ask anybody from Quebec
