The day after the declaration of independance of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Serbian forces start the bombing of Sarajevo.
The
Bosnian War
begins.
We shall see this war at the heart of Europe, every day on the TV. During three years. We shall see snipers shooting childrens in the streets, fighters hiding under false uniforms, abandoned civilians be massacred by hundreds, mass graves covered with lime, cowardly and divided European diplomacies, powerless and humbled UN forces. (The efforts of the international community to end the conflict and protect the civilian populations are without results, in spite of the sending of more than 38 000 UN peacekeepers. 167 men of the UNPROFOR are killed and more than 700 of them are wounded, of whom approximately half belonging to the French army). It will be necessary that NATO finally intervenes, so that it stops.
Europe died there.
