What's up at home today...?

I'm a bit unsure about the physical unit Newton or Kilo Newton which is a thousand times the force. So it's about the force that affects a mass. Let's say on earth. In space, mass should not exert any force if it is far enough away from centers of mass such as planets. There used to be the well known Kilopond but that was phased out as a unit over 40 years ago. Today we talk about Newton and nobody really knows how to convert it, for example for the permissible load on a roof. Let's say 30 KN per square meter is the limit, what mass does that correspond to? The Newton unit contains the measure of acceleration m/s², on our small planet Terra about 9.81 meters per second square. So you have to divide the value by about 10, right? Then we would be at 3 kg for the mass. Or am I wrong? I don't think you can rely on wikipedia on this question. Anyone who knows something is welcome to contribute to this small case study.

G = m * g so m = G/g = 30.000 N / 9.81 m/s2 = 3.058,1 kg
