The first passengers boat with zero carbon emission of Lorient urban area was launched on Monday, at the
Lorient STX shipyard
, based in the zone of Rohu in Lanester, other side of the harbour.
The Ar Vag Tredan ("electric boat" in Breton) should be put in service at the end of October after a phase of tests in the pontoon and at sea. It also remains to end the internal arrangements.
This electric boat will complete the fleet of the Lorient collective transport company which counts already four passenger ships connecting the cities which line the natural harbour: Lorient, Locmiquelic, Port Louis and Gâvres.
The investment amounts to 3,4 million euro. A world premiere. " It is about the first passengers boat with zero emission of CO2, equipped with super-capacity condensers ", explains Mathieu Lelièvre, engineer at STX. These aluminium condensers allow a very fast refill of the order of 4 minutes.
22.1 meters long for a 7.2 meter width, Ar Vag Tredan, who will assure shuttles in the harbor of Lorient, presents a 1.5 meter draft. Endowed with two azimuthal propellers, this catamaran, capable of reaching the speed of 10 knots, can welcome 113 persons, among whom 3 with reduced mobility, as well as 10 bikes. This ship was designed and built by STX France in cooperation with Stirling Design International, naval architect and designer of the project.
Local work built by local workers... And moreover, not naughty... Well, some well spent public money, for once...
