The results of the One Ocean Summit can be viewed online. Pfff, for me, just an aspirin against a cancer, i hesitate between weariness and disgust . The French Minister of Armed Forces, Florence Parly, announced on Thursday evening that the «Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier and its escort have left Cyprus» in order to adapt «to the new situation», in reference to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. The French aircraft carrier had initially left in early February in the Mediterranean Sea to participate in the fight against the Islamic State (or Daesh) group in Syria and Iraq.

The carrier and its escort will «be able to reach in the Mediterranean», an area that will allow the planes 'embarked on the aircraft carrier (...) to carry out sky policing, reconnaissance and intelligence missions; these aircraft will fly due north to the territory of Romania where they will have the ability to observe and deter,' she said. 'Our mission is strictly deterrent, we have no bellicose intentions,' she added. The minister recalled that France had carried out “air missions since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine”. «On February 24, we sent fighter jets and their refuellers from France to operate these protection missions for the benefit of the Baltic States and Poland».

The French minister will also visit Romania on Sunday to meet with some 500 soldiers sent by France to that country. «I will go to Romania on Sunday to see our soldiers», declared the minister on Thursday evening, interviewed by the French channel. 'We have deployed them because we owe assistance and solidarity to countries that belong to the European Union, that belong to the Atlantic Alliance and that are closest to this conflict,' she added. 'We want to send a deterrent message to Russia so that Russia does not take another step and Russia does not take the lead in crossing the Atlantic Alliance boundary; we are countries that are bound by a solidarity pact and Russia knows that if one of us is attacked, then the whole Alliance will respond,' she warned.
