Volkswagen accused of rigging pollution tests to get its cars past clean air laws

The discovery of a cheat system for emission tests on 482,000 vehicles sold in the US has led to a plunge of almost 17% over VW on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange Monday, with a low of 21%. The group accused 15 billion euros of losses on its 77 billion euro market capitalization. It may also be more than 18 billion dollars in fines, plus the buyback cost of hundreds of thousands of vehicles, also estimated in the millions - or even billions - of dollars.
According to the American environmental agency ( EPA), Volkswagen would have endowed its diesel vehicles made across the Atlantic between 2009 and 2015 of the software capable of detecting automatically at which moment they were subjected to an antipollution measurement test of the authorities. The clandestine software engaged then an internal mechanism of limitation of polluting gases, allowing the vehicle to take the test without any problems and to see awarding a certificate of ecological good behavior. Once the finished test, the antipollution mechanism deactivateD
