Well, i consider the tide as the normal breathe of a natural living ocean, and man just have to deal with that. The sea is the most powerful element, it’s the matrix of all life but doesn't take any particular care about human, it’s up to him to act wisely and humbly. When sea kills or brings damages, for me it’s always because the act of man, not because the act of the sea.
EDIT : In the short story The Women, published in his collection I Sing the Body Electric!, Ray Bradbury has a very fantastic and poetic vision about all of this ...
