I'm not a big fan of series. Just in recent years I bumped into Monty Python and
later into Hogan's Heroes, which I just downloaded again. Love these two series.
Other good series is Faulty Towers with John Cleese from Monty Python.

Fawlty Towers is a fantastic series, even if only 12 episodes.
I assume you know Polly (Connie Booth) was Cleese's wife at that time?

No, just read about it now. She did appear in some of Monty Python's movie also.
Police Squad! is in the same humor range with me too
They did only 6 episodes.
I remember MASH was on TV here when I was little, but I never
got to follow it. I found out about Red Skelton a year ago, but I never
managed to follow this either.
Does anyone know any similar series?

At this moment I am watching
letters from Iwo Jima
Don't know why I never saw this movie before.
Very refreshing to see this from a Japanese point of view, so far a good movie, didn't finish it yet so opinion may change

Watching once more the famous French series by Daniel Costelle " les grandes batailles" (the great battles), interesting series because it provides testimonies from réal actors of WW2 conflict, from any sides.
