want to play hd2 with a friend!

I've played HD2 online before, I believe it was two years ago on a RpR server. A roommate said he would like to play as well but I had such trouble with creating a server. I can't join my own (dedicated) server, and neither can he.
I used this to try and find fixes but they were to no avail.
Is there another way of getting it to work on windows 7?

Anyway, I downloaded the hosts file and tried to join an RpR server but I don't think I have the correct map. (Burma Kingslayer, i think)
Can anyone help me maybe?

First of all I guess it's not enough opening 11001 only for a server, if I recall well you also must open the DirectPlay port of the DirectX of your Windows. Please check this article for further information too!

thanks for the help, i've been able to play on the servers! maybe try to host my own server next time.
