I tried conversions of maps, especially on those with the trees used on Arctic 1/3, Alps 1 and Ardennes. The textures of these trees look quite poor when you get near them, and enemy sees you trough.
Here I gave desert textures to the ground and swapped all trees to palm trees from Africa maps. This works quickly with a hex editor by search and replace. (The tree model in scene2.bin). A new model for the palm tree was used to adjust height and size, to match the existing collision.
