A bit of a blast from the past...
Dubbed "Canada's Answer to Lassie",
The Littlest Hobo follows a similar principal to its American counterpart. The Original run lasted from 1963 - 1965, and then again from 1979 to 1985, and followed the exploits of a smarter-than-average German Sheppard as it travelled the country helping those in need.
I watched the show in syndication as a kid, mostly with my dad when we were working together in his Garage. He didn't have a cable TV hookup in the garage yet (though he would make a point of setting one up when
digital conversion
rendered analog TVs obsolete) but my dad never liked it too quiet when he was in there, so he always had at least a 12" TV set up with bunny-ears watching either
CBC or
A Channel. When I would be home from school, the choice of programming was between
Heartland
or
The Littlest Hobo, and the Hobo always won
As an aside, this episode features the
RCAF 424 Transport and Rescue Squadron
, which was originally stationed here in Hamilton ON, and operates today out of CFB Trenton. These SAR Techs, nicknamed "Tiger Squadron" are on 30 minute standby at all times in case of emergency situations such as the one in this episode.
