Sure, for such large models as this Matchbox, it may be easy enough to convert an old turntable.
For figurines as my fairies, it's different, their stand is maybe between 5 and 8 cm, so it fits perfect on the circular surface of a CD.
Sounds ok for me, i have a lot of old CD and DVD writers but not a single old turntable :D
