On November 18, during the assault managed by the RAID in Saint-Denis, the combat dog Diesel, a Belgian Shepperd Malinois, was killed by the terrorists. Diesel was working since five years with this elite police unit and was on the point to be retired.
On November 20, the Russian Minister of the Interior, Mr. Vladimir Kolokoltsev, sent a letter to French Minister of the Interior, Mr. Bernard Cazeneuve, with a proposal to offer a dog to France, where he wrote : "as a sign of solidarity to the French people and the French police to replace the police dog Diesel, killed during a special operation to neutralize terrorists."
Today, in his answering letter to Mr. Kolokoltsev, Mr. Cazeneuve accepted the Russian proposal and stated : "The testimonies of solidarity and mutual assistance that the Russian government has sent to France go to the heart of the French people. In addition, the gift of the Russian police-dog lovers to their French counterparts, to overcome the disappearance of the police dog Diesel, died in the assault in Saint-Denis, expresses a very strong and exceptional symbolic gesture on your part. I am personally very sensitive and ensures the best reception will be reserved to the police shepherd puppy. Undoubtedly, it will embody the Franco-Russian friendship very much alive in the field of internal security".
So, here we are, Dobrynya, named after the Russian medieval knight Dobrynya Nikitich, folklore hero renowned for his strength, his goodness and his courage, will be soon a member of the French police.
About Diesel, the municipality of Asnieres, nearby Paris, offered a grave to her.
Welcome, Dobrynya, and rest in peace, Diesel.
