The German Foreign Office sends a diplomatic correspondance to Mexico in which he proposes a military alliance if United States enter war against Germany. This proposition includes the promise, once Germany wins the war, to give to Mexico the territories of Texas, Arizona and New-Mexico ( nothing less...
)
The Zimmermann Telegram , after the name of German Foreign Secretary Arthur Zimmermann, will be intercepted by U.S. intelligence services and its decoding will accelerate the United States declaration of war on Germany that will take place in April 1917.
Edit : The exact date seems to be controversed depending of the sources. This date of January 16 comes from French Wikipedia. However, the topic itself deserved a post here i think.

In order to relieve Allied troops fighting on the Winter Line in Italy, especially those blocked in Monte Cassino, and to outflank German forces in this sector, a landing is planned in the Italian city of Anzio.
Operation Shingle will demonstrate that a bad plan, made in a hurry for tinkering with a poor strategy since the beginning, will be not enough when dealing with a competent enemy as Marshall Kesselring. Indeed, it will be a long way to Rome...
