General of Army Corps Denis Favier was promoted today to the rank of Army General (five stars), the highest rank in French army, and becomes today the DG (big boss) of the French Gendarmerie.
Maybe you know his name? He was two times the boss of the GIGN and it's he who was leading this unit and who managed the counter terrorist operation of the GIGN at the Marseille airport in 1994, when the flight AF 8969 was hijacked by terrorists of the GIA.
If you want to see at his curriculum vitae, it's here (PDF file in French).
Well, as a French citizen, i have to say that i approve this nomination. I think that it's deserved because, as we say here, he really wet the shirt. Also, again as a French citizen, if we speak about police operations on the French soil, right or wrong i must admit that i always trusted very much the gendarmerie than the police. So, in my opinion and as we say in America, "the right man at the right place", and it's not always the case here in my country...
Good luck, General

The first year students of the Robotics department of the Colbert Technical High School of Lorient are back from the Robogames, the Olympics Robotics, which took place this year in San Mateo, south of San Francisco. Their three robot teams were involved in the trials in categories related to music and dance.
They can be proud, these youngs. Not only they bring to France its very first medals in this competition but in addition, they come back with three medals, one bronze medal and two gold medals including the one won in Senior League with their robot Gipsy.
All the electronics and mechanics of robots was of course designed and builted by them during the school year and, facing the jury, they were able to defend their technological choices and this in English language.
"Colbert", as we call the old lady here, has always been very involved in this kind of work. At the time i was myself a student in this school, we worked on prototypes of special equipments for the disabled, in partnership with the Kerpape Functional Reeducation and Rehabilitation Center , close by and whose international reputation of research in functional rehabilitation is well established.. And also, when we know that all of this is in the public domain and works with public money for the whole community and not just to fatten private interests, we say it is not so bad...
Really, it's nice to see that so many years later, the tradition continues and the youth take over and roll up his sleeves. Well done, youth and long live, Colbert!

Georges Chamming's died Thursday, April 18, 2013 in Montpellier at the age of 91 years.
Georges Chamming's was the penultimate survivor of the thirty French SAS who jumped on the night of 5 to 6 June 1944 in Brittany, a few hours before the landing in Normandy, as part of the operation Samwest . Lance Corporal Georges Chaming's, radio operator, was one of the ten pathfinders of the stick "Pierre 3" which was dropped at 00:30, above the forest of Duault, to establish the SAS support base Samwest for future drops and to implement the coordination of guerrilla warfare with the French Resistance. This is where he will meet Marie Krebs, Resistance fighter of the St. Marcel maquis and daughter of a French Resistance leader, who would become his girlfriend and future wife.
Georges Chaming's then participate in others operations of the French SAS (Operation Grog, June 13, 1944 - August 19, 1944 and Operation Spencer, August 26, 1944 - September 14, 1944).
Georges Chaming's was Knight of the Legion of Honor.
The religious ceremony of his funerals will be celebrated Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gramont funeral centre in Montpellier.
