I was thinking of i3 since you mentioned it and I also saw it before. Some are
more popular than others. I wouldn't even add more to my current setup. It's
simple and that's how I like things in life. I would prefer to invest money and
time into making dough than tweaking something that works and looks good
already :D

EDIT --- This may help a bit, but it's not a solution.

Since I have moved to the Plasma Desktop I have been experiencing some lag.
I think I've finally fixed it by disabling the Plasma compositor while playing HD2.
To do that:
System Settings > Window Management > Window Rules > New:
In "Window class (application)" choose "exact match" and enter "hd2_sabresquadron.exe"
then in "Appearance and Fixes"
tick "Block Compositing", choose "Force" and tick Yes.
Apply.

XFCE Window manger doesn't have those kind of rules.

Yes, and I think I've found something. I'll have to test it later tonight.
Turned of display compositor and I don't mind transparency at all.

Will update this post later.

Edited my previous post. The compositor is not the cause of the lag.
